Board meetings are held on Saturdays. SWIDA members are welcome to attend these board meetings as observers. Call the SWIDA office (505-255-8234) if interested. Some of our hardest working Board Members were guests who came to volunteer their services.

Megan Rosker
Board President
Professional Background:
- Director of Outreach and Admissions at May Center for Learning
- Expertise in connecting the dots across our community to support neurodivergent leaders in the public and private sectors, speaking to families about support for their neurodivergent learners.
- 20 years of experience in education
Role on the Board:
- Serving as President since January 2025
- Focus areas: growing our board’s reach and energy across the state.
- Committed to supporting SWIDA’s mission of serving dyslexic and those with language based learning differences across the state of New Mexico.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelors Degree from Kenyon College
- Teaching Certificate from the University of New Mexico, Teach for America alum, Point of Light leadership award, Sequential English Education certification, IMSE certification, Seeing Stars certification
Personal Interests:
- Passionate about supporting every student—regardless of how they learn, what language they speak, or where they come from—across the state to help them find the educational support that opens the right door to spark their potential. I meet students, parents, businesses, and organizations where they are, realistically, so we can make meaningful progress with clarity and intention.
- Enjoys reading, cooking for my family, walk the dogs, maintaining a beautiful home for my family, sitting on the back porch with my husband.
Angelica Cuevas-Duran
Recording Secretary
Professional Background:
- Director of Special Services at Rio Rancho Public Schools (RRPS)
- Expertise in special education, dual-language education, bilingual education, and educational evaluations
- 20 years of experience in public education
Role on the Board:
- Serving as Recording Secretary since 2025
- Director-at-Large since 2023
- Focus areas: special education advocacy, culturally and linguistically responsive instruction, equitable identification practices.
- Committed to supporting SWIDA’s mission of empowering parents, educators, and individuals with dyslexia and provide comprehensive resources and guidance to help navigate and overcome the challenges of dyslexia.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in General Education with a focus on Bilingual Education – University of Houston
- Master’s degree in Educational Leadership – New Mexico Highlands University
- Educational Diagnostician Licensure coursework – University of New Mexico
- Recipient of the First Year Teacher of the Year Golden Apple Award
Community & Leadership Involvement:
- Served on the team that developed the NM TEAM Identification of Dyslexia Supplemental Narrative and Worksheet for the New Mexico Public Education Department, Special Education Division
- Collaborated with Riverside Publishing to pioneer the administration of virtual clinical assessments during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring continued access to high-quality special education evaluations despite unprecedented challenges.
Personal Interests:
- Passionate about public education, bilingual education, and appropriate identification of Dyslexia—rooted in both professional experience and a personal family history.
- Enjoys traveling and values time spent with her family, which continues to enrich her cultural perspective and connection to heritage.
Sarah Brown, PhD
Treasurer
Professional Background:
- With over 20 years of experience in education, Sarah is a School Psychologist by training and has served in roles including the Bureau Chief leading Special Education and MTSS implementation for Iowa, Special Education Director, Professional Learning Administrator, and School Psychologist. She also led customer education and MTSS within K-12 education technology companies.
- Sarah is co-author of the books, Effective Universal Instruction and MTSS for Reading Improvement

- Treasurer since 2025
Education & Certifications:
- PhD in School Psychology from Northern Illinois University
Community & Leadership Involvement:
- Volunteer as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)
Personal Interests:
- I am passionate about enabling children to become happy, empowered adults.
- I believe that engaging and supporting educators is essential to every child experiencing reading success.

- Expertise in structured literacy, school leadership/administration, executive coaching/instructional coaching, LETRS local facilitator and course manager, adjunct professor (New Mexico State University)
- 21 of experience in Education

- Focus areas: Communications, Membership, and Strategic Planning
- Committed to supporting SWIDA’s mission of empowering parents, educators, and individuals with dyslexia and providing comprehensive resources and guidance to help navigate and overcome the challenges of dyslexia.

Personal Interests:
- Passionate about teaching and learning. Supporting/Coaching teachers and leaders, to improve their instructional systems.
- Enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. Traveling and experiencing different types of foods. Reading for fun and ensuring I have a work/life balance.
Kathryn “Katy” Vaz, M.Ed., CALT
Professional Background:
- Reading Specialist - Roswell Independent School District
- Owner, Launch Literacy, LLC in Roswell, NM - Dyslexia Therapy
- Passion for meeting the needs of students with dyslexia and providing explicit, sequential dyslexia therapy and reading intervention in public and private settings.
- 32 years of experience in education
Role on the Board:
- Member since 2024
- Focus areas: growing awareness and support for SWIDA’s mission, especially in southeastern New Mexico.
- Committed to supporting SWIDA’s mission of serving dyslexic students and those with language based learning differences across the state of New Mexico.

- Bachelor’s Degree and Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from California State University - Stanislaus
- Master’s Degree in Reading and Literacy from Eastern New Mexico University
- NMPED Endorsement in Reading and English Language Arts

- CALT trained at Payne Education Center in Oklahoma City, OK

Personal Interests:
- Advocating for awareness and intervention for students, of all ages, who struggle to read and comprehend. Reading is a right.
- Travel, time spent with family and friends, being a grandma, good books, my pets, and country living.
